The Plan

Scenarios and challenges

Sustainable development is one of the greatest challenges that society is currently facing, and also one of its greatest responsibilities towards future generations. Living well now and allowing other generations to choose how to live is one of the greatest legacies that any person, company or government can leave.

The world’s population is expected to grow by around 30% in the next four decades, reaching circa 9 billion people in 2050. Therefore, the demand for food will consequently increase.

We believe that the answer to this challenge lies in sustainable agriculture, which recognizes the complex structure of the food production chain, but is aware that it is possible to be more productive and add value while preserving natural resources and respecting the environment, and furthermore, contribute to the development of local communities and the society.

In 2019, with the aim of updating and deepening AMAGGI’s priority themes and sustainability challenges, a general review of the Sustainability Plan with a Vision was promoted until 2025, in addition to the materiality review, with the participation of leaders from various areas of the company and consultations with several stakeholders.

In this process, seeking to provide greater clarity, the company updated its commitments within each of the four strategic blocks and repositioned some themes, considering its initiatives, investments and also the most relevant trends for the business. One of the changes was the name of one of the blocks that went from “Debating the present and the future” to “Innovating sustainable products and solutions”.

Also, in 2019, AMAGGI launched its 2018 Progress Report, of its Global Sustainability Positioning AMAGGI: Commitment “Towards a Deforestation-Free Grain Chain”, which describes the company’s important achievements in its operations and value chain.

And, in order to clarify the scope of AMAGGI’s commitment to combat deforestation, the challenges and means to achieve increasingly sustainable agriculture, the new version of its commitment, entitled Global Positioning Towards a Deforestation and Conversion-Free Grain Chain, was also launched.
